THE INVISIBLE WAY TO STRAIGHTEN YOUR TEETH, WITHOUT BRACES

Invisalign invisible braces can give you the beautiful straight teeth you’ve always wanted and hardly anyone will even know you’re doing it. It works through a series of clear, comfortable, and removable aligners that no one can tell you are wearing. So you can smile more during your treatment and after.

And with over 70% of US dentists now certified to treat with Invisalign invisible braces, it has been proven effective in practices nationwide. Dr. Gray was one of the first general dentists in the country to be trained and certified in the use of these invisible aligners.

INVISALIGN IS 30-40% FASTER THAN TRADITIONAL BRACES

In most cases, Invisalign is 30-40% faster than traditional braces, getting you a straight, beautiful smile you’ve been hoping for, in less time.

Dr. Gray was one of the first general dentists to be trained and certified in the use of these invisible aligners, and has had tremendous experience enhancing the smiles of his patients. Perhaps yours can be next.

Not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign, but luckily about 80% of adults can benefit from it.

The typical Invisalign patient is an adult, who either wore braces as a child and has had some changes since then, or someone who has always wanted straight teeth and just never had the opportunity. Invisalign invisible braces are perfect for most adults, as they are removable and you have the flexibility to decide to wear Invisalign invisible braces or not.

A recent Invisalign patient said this:

“Dr. Gray, I am so pleased with my results. I just can’t tell you. This whole process has been amazing. From where my teeth started to where they are now is incredible. I’m very happy. My neighbor has been in regular braces for 5 years, and you accomplished what I wanted in just over a year. Thanks so much.”

What is Invisalign?

  • Invisalign is the nearly invisible way to straighten your teeth without braces.
  • Using space-age computer CAD-CAM technology, Invisalign creates a series of clear, comfortable aligners (pictured to the right) that gently and quickly straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets.
  • Over the past 5 years, Invisalign has proven to be an extremely effective and efficient way to help adults achieve the straight, beautiful smile they’ve always wanted.

How does Invisalign work?

  • You wear each set of computer-generated comfortable aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them for meals and to brush. To get the best results, you’ll want to wear your aligners about 20-22 hours/day.
  • About every 2 weeks you will switch to the next aligner in the series, as your teeth are gently moved towards the final position.
  • You normally will come to the office for a check up and to pick up your next set of aligners about every 4-6 weeks, making this convenient for most patients’ busy schedule.
  • Total treatment time will vary based on your teeth, but on average Invisalign treatment is 30-40% faster than traditional braces and best of all, it’s nearly invisible. Most patients time of treatment averages between 6-14 months. Some are quicker, some may be slightly longer.
  • Side Benefit – Many of our patients have reported a 5-7 lb. weight loss as the result of decreased snacking throughout the day.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

In our experience, we have found that over 80% of adults we have seen in our LaMesa cosmetic dentistry office are excellent candidates for Invisalign braces, and that number continues to grow as we find more and more situations where Invisalign can be a tremendous benefit. We have included some typical situations below on this page where Invisalign is most often effective. The final determination if Invisalign braces will work for you will be made during your consultation visit in La Mesaby both you and Dr.Gray.

Not only are Invisalign braces versatile, helping to correct a broad range of dental and orthodontic issues, but it really works. And there are over half a million smiles to back that up. But a confident smile isn’t the only benefit of correcting your dental issues with custom-made Invisalign aligners—your health can be positively impacted as well. Learn more about several common issues below that an experienced Invisalign dentist can work with you to correct.

Does my insurance help cover Invisalign clear braces like regular braces?

Yes, you will be pleased to know that if you are eligible and your plan has an orthodontic benefit, you can apply it to the total cost of Invisalign clear braces just like traditional braces. Our La Mesa dentist office team has experts in this area and will be sure you get the maximum insurance benefit you are allowed from your plan. Each plan is different, but our special computer programs can help let you know how much benefit you can expect. We also have special financing, some even with 0% interest, and payment plans to help cover the difference.

My teeth are fairly crowded. Will Invisalign help me have straight teeth?

Obviously not all situations of crowding can be handled with Invisalign clear braces, but you will be excited to learn that Dr. Gray has tremendous experience in this area, and has found that 80% or more of adult patients are candidates. “The more cases we treat the more amazed I am at just how versatile the aligners can be for even the most complex situations.” You will learn for sure at your initial consultation if you are a candidate to receive straight teeth through the Invisalign clear braces system. If Dr. Gray determines that Invisalign may not be your best option, he also works closely with highly skilled traditional orthodontists that may be able to help you with a combination of traditional braces and Invisalign.

How long does Invisalign generally take?

The cases with Invisalign clear braces we have been seeing in the office here in La Mesa on average have been finishing in the 9-12 month range for moderately complex situations. Less complex cases often finish in 6-9 months and conversely, severely complicated cases may take longer. The great thing is that most traditional braces tend to take between 18-24 months. So Invisalign not only allows you the comfort and flexibility to take them out when you eat and clean your teeth, but Invisalign is generally 30-40% faster than traditional braces. The best thing is that with the clear aligners, most of your friends won’t even notice you are wearing them until they see that beautiful new smile with straight teeth and wonder what happened.

I had braces as a kid, but now my teeth are shifting. Can Invisalign clear braces help me?

That is a great question because by far, the majority of the patients we see are in this category. Most adults had braces as kids, and now see that their once beautifully straight teeth are shifting or overlapping because they didn’t wear or they lost their retainer. It is natural for our teeth to shift over time if things aren’t perfectly balanced. This situation is almost what Invisalign clear braces were designed for.
People tend to remember how goofy they looked or what a hassle the metal braces were as kids, and although they want straight teeth now, they don’t want to go through traditional braces again. Instead, they suffer with a smile that while it’s not bad, it nags their self-confidence or makes it harder to brush and floss them. Crowded or overlapped teeth also tend to get more stain and discoloration. So not only will Invisalign clear braces help your smile look better, it could help your mouth to be cleaner and healthier.

What is the minimum age that can be treated with Invisalign?

Generally the minimum age for Invisalign clear braces is about 14 years old. You need to have your second or 12-year molars fully erupted for Invisalign to work best. Dr. Gray can determine if Invisalign is right for your child at the initial consultation.

Does this work with Overbites?

In 80% or more of the situations, Invisalign clear braces can be an excellent choice for this problem. Dr. Gray has treated a large number of patients with “deep bites” or overbites with wonderful results. Invisalign often uses small tooth-colored composite buttons, that are placed on specific teeth, to allow the aligners to reposition the bite to a more natural and pleasing position throughout the treatment time.

I have a few crowns and one bridge. Am I still a candidate for clear braces?

Most adults have had a dental crown or two by the time they decide to try Invisalign clear braces. So generally it is not a major issue. Depending on where the bridge is and what your goals are, a bridge may have some effect on the treatment. Luckily, Invisalign offers Dr. Gray the flexibility to move some teeth while not moving others. With the experience he has, we can often work around or incorporate the bridge into the needed movements resulting in straight teeth for the entire mouth. You can find out for sure at your complimentary consultation.

Will TMJ affect Invisalign treatment?

TMJ actually is the jaw joint itself, so everyone actually has TMJ. But I think what you are referring to is pain or discomfort in the joint. Some people with severe joint pain or dysfunction may be more affected by the Invisalign clear braces process, but in many cases, having the bite aligned and balanced properly may actually significantly relieve your symptoms. Dr. Gray is very experienced in this area, and in fact is a Clinical Instructor at the Kois Center in Seattle, where he teaches other dentists from around the U.S. how to work with and rebuild patients mouths, to ensure a solid balanced bite that is comfortable.

I heard Invisalign was just for minor problems. Is that true?

Perhaps when it was first introduced, we tried to limit our use of Invisalign clear braces to simpler issues. But now after nearly a decade of use and hundreds of thousands of patients undergoing treatment, we have found that Invisalign can handle nearly any situation. This includes more complex situations from crossbites to crowding and even big gaps between teeth. Invisalign clear braces are a great alternative to traditional braces to achieve straight teeth, even for very complex cases.

INVISALIGN CAN TREAT:

Overly Crowded Teeth

This occurs when there is simply a lack of room within your jaw for all of your teeth to fit normally. When left untreated, overly crowded teeth can cause dental decay, an increase in chances of gum disease, and can prevent the normal function of teeth.

Widely Spaced Teeth

This occurs with abnormal continued growth of the jaw bone. When teeth are missing, this issue can also be caused by the other teeth shifting due to extra space. Spacing issues in teeth can cause some periodontal diseases.

Crossbite

This occurs when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and/or the sides of the mouth. This issue can cause wear of the teeth, gum disease, and bone loss.

Overbite

What people commonly refer to as an “overbite” is known to dental professionals as “overjet.” It occurs when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. It’s typically caused by either genetics, bad oral habits, or overdevelopment of the bone that supports the teeth. This issue can lead to gum problems or irritation, and/or wear on the lower teeth and can cause painful jaw and joint problems.

Underbite

This occurs when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth. It’s usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or both. It can also be caused by missing upper teeth. This issue can prevent the normal function of front teeth or molars which can lead to tooth wear. It can also cause painful jaw and joint problems.

Custom-Designed Program

An Invisalign dentist will work with you to create a custom-designed program that will treat your specific dental or orthodontic issue(s). Your Invisalign braces treatment program will consist of a full set of aligners, made for you, and only you. And of course, there are other considerations when making the decision to straighten your teeth. Think about how Invisalign braces can fit in your life by providing a virtually invisible option to getting the smile you want.
