We all want perfectly white, straight teeth, but achieving that goal can sometimes involve an expensive, time-consuming dental procedure such as braces or crowns. Good news! Veneers are your cost-effective solution for a wide range of cosmetic and orthodontic issues.

Veneers come in two types — porcelain or resin-based composite veneers. Of the two, porcelain is more expensive and longer-lasting. Both mimic natural-looking teeth so no one will know you have them. Six Reasons to Get Veneers

Veneers can cover up chipped, misshapen, stained, or crooked teeth as well as noticeable gaps between teeth. Unlike with a crown or dental implant, your tooth will remain mostly intact: the veneer is smoothed over the tooth to act as a thin shell against the flaw. Other benefits of veneers include:

Lower Cost. Cosmetic and orthodontic procedures can be pricey. According to the American Dental Association, complete dentures can cost between $400 and $8,000. The price for dental implants ranges between $3,000 and $4,500 for each tooth. By contrast, veneers will set you back $925 to $2,500 per tooth. 

Quick Fix. Unlike other dental procedures, veneers require much less of a time commitment (and we all would prefer to spend less time at the dentist!). For porcelain veneers, your dentist will take an impression of your mouth and remove a small amount of enamel from the tooth. The mold is then sent to a laboratory for a custom fit. Temporary veneers will be applied until the permanent one is ready, which could take no more than two or three visits. Resin-composite veneers can be done in just one visit as the dentist cleans and reshapes the tooth without removing any enamel. The composite material is then bonded to the tooth and hardened with a light. It should also be noted that these procedures don’t require any anesthesia!

Long-Lasting. Depending upon which type you choose, veneers can last from five to 20 years. Porcelain veneers won’t need replacement for two decades but may be difficult to correct if they break. Resin-composite veneers, on the other hand, will last only five years but are easier to fix and replace.

Strengthens Teeth. Veneers aren’t only for the correction of cosmetic dental issues. Veneers can actually strengthen your teeth! For people whose enamel has worn away can turn to veneers and keep the tooth strong.

Whitens Teeth. Both porcelain and resin-composite veneers give teeth a whiter, more natural look. Porcelain veneers are a bit more stain-resistant than the resin-composite ones, but both repel coffee and tea discolorations. That being said, to maintain the clean white appearance of your veneers, you should still avoid teeth-staining drinks like coffee, tea, and red wine as much as possible.

Doesn’t Require Any Special Care. Once the veneers go on, you can follow your normal dental care routine of brushing and flossing daily. And always visit your dentist twice yearly to check on your teeth and to see how your veneers are holding up!
