Six New Dental Technologies To Know About

Author: Posted: February 1st, 2022 Category:

Espire Dental is on the forefront of dental technology to diagnose and treat all your oral health care needs.

At Espire Dental, we strive to provide our patients with knowledgeable and compassionate oral care. Part of our mission is using state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and treat dental problems with precision and less discomfort.

We understand dental care can be anxiety-ridden and sometimes painful. By employing newer technologies, Espire dentists are not only able to treat patients more effectively but can also ensure their comfort, as well. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that only 65 percent of adults aged 18 and over visited a dentist. With the innovations in dental tools we now use, Espire Dental wants to increase that percentage so everyone receives excellent oral care.

Six New Dental Technologies at Espire

Espire Dental professionals are armed with many innovative tools to treat cavities, missing teeth, and other dental conditions. Here are six new technologies we’re employing:

Digital X-rays. Unlike traditional X-rays, digital X-rays reduce your radiation exposure by 80 percent. Digital X-rays provide a quicker, clearer picture of your teeth, which you and the dentist can view on a flat screen soon after the image is taken.

Laser Dentistry. At Espire Dental, we use lasers for two purposes. First, laser cavity detection finds cavities in hard to spot places and when the decay is just forming. The tool has an accuracy rate of 90 percent and is painless. For gum issues, lasers painlessly and efficiently trim away gums to reveal more of your teeth.

Cancer Screening. Oral cancer is highly curable if caught early, and our OralID device uses fluorescence technology to uncover any abnormalities in the oral tissue at the earliest stages, detecting cancer and pre-cancerous cells.

Intra-Oral Camera. Getting precise, clear pictures of the inside of your mouth is difficult. But the Intra-Oral Camera takes snapshots of your mouth to pinpoint decay, cracked or broken teeth. This allows the dentist and hygienist to thoroughly check your teeth and see where you need treatment.

CEREC Crown Machine. Crowns once took several visits to get a perfect fit. With the CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) Crown Machine, you can get a strong, natural-looking crown in just one visit, sparing yourself numerous appointments, impressions, shots, and drillings.

Wireless Scanner. Remember those times you had to bite down on doughy clay to get an impression of your mouth? The Trios 3 Shape replaces that outdated technology with a digital image of your mouth so the dentist can develop a treatment plan for Invisalign, braces, and other restorative procedures like a crown.

What’s On the Horizon

Dentistry is constantly evolving, as is medical practice in general. In the coming years — and possibly months — you can expect to see these innovations at your dentist’s office.

Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming medicine and dentistry with its ability to make accurate diagnosis. By analyzing patient data points, AI can diagnose conditions and guide the dentist to the correct therapy.

Virtual Reality. To distract patients from uncomfortable dental fixes, dental offices often turn on a television. But that may not be enough to divert a patient’s attention. Virtual Reality, or VR, transports patients to another world with a headset. One study conducted by Cedars-Sinai’s Health Service Research found that VR sessions reduced pain in hospitalized patients. It could also work when you’re undergoing a dental procedure.

3D Printing. High-speed 3D printers are economical and efficient and can be used for several common dental remedies. 3D printers can significantly reduce the cost of manufacturing dental implants and dental splints to prevent teeth grinding.

Teledentistry. The pandemic has accelerated the advent of telemedicine and dentistry is hopping on the trend. Using video conferencing, dentists can perform routine examinations and decide whether emergency treatment is warranted or if you can wait until the next in-person visit.
