Toothpaste…how interesting can it get? Well, gone are the days of plain spearmint, mint, or peppermint. Back in the day, toothpaste flavors (or dental cream, as it was once called by Colgate), were not meant to be exotic or interesting. Tastes and fashions have changed, and the 2000s are all about trying new things, even bizarre toothpaste flavors! It’s a new era of toothpaste products, and today we’re going to discuss some of the whackiest flavors out there!
Pepperiment, Mint & Spearmint Are the Most Popular Flavors. But Have You Ever Tried Cupcake Toothpaste?
In the 1950’s, Colgate’s “Dental Cream with Gardol” was the most high-tech thing in the realm of toothpaste. Gardol was discontinued in their dental creams 1970, due to complaints about its effectiveness against caries. Below is a snippet of a television ad boasting “Colgate Dental Cream with Gardol!”
The only claims the maker of this toothpaste flavored toothpaste make is that this toothpaste is “much healthier than brushing with real frosting”. Wow-wee! What a benefit. Despite their joking, this toothpaste acts as both a novelty and a real toothpaste. Yes, it’s a real toothpaste! We’re not convinced it’s the best toothpaste you can use, but it’s a fun stocking stuff or surprise present!
Marmite Toothpaste?!
Marmite is certainly an acquired taste. For those are are not in love with this British yeast extract spread to begin with, using it to brush your teeth may be a little too much. However, this spoof product doesn’t really exist. Marmite toothpaste was part of a marketing campaign to introduce the Marmite cereal bar. The Toothpaste box opens up to reveal the cereal bar on the inside.
Bacon-Flavored Toothpaste
Last but not least is our favorite: The Bacon-Flavored Toothpaste. This toothpaste is delicious and cleans your teeth. While we love the concept, we still think you should stick with toothpaste that fights tartar, plaque, and strengthens enamel.
