What are Sealants?

Sealants are a protective coating used mostly on back molar teeth to help them from getting cavities.

One of the most common places to get a cavity is on the biting surface of the teeth where all the little grooves catch bacteria and food.  When we place sealants we first clean the grooves out of any stain and bacteria, and then place the white filling material in the grooves so you can’t even see them.  Some of our sealants even can have fluoride in them!

When done correctly, that can be very helpful in preventing tooth decay, kind of like having a cover for your cell phone or iPad!
